The basis of all dance forms.

Ballet is an important aspect of dance training as it feeds into all other dance styles such as jazz, lyrical, modern, and hip hop. Ballet puts great emphasis on the method and execution of movement, focusing on alignment, turnout, poise, and self discipline.

Ballet

Barb’s Centre for Dance offers two levels of ballet. Our Classical Ballet Program includes Intro to Ballet thru Level IV/V. Our Classical Ballet Intensive Program includes levels I thru V. Listed below are details for each program.

Classical Ballet Program – offered at both Green Bay and Fox Valley locations

Intro to Ballet

You will be taken through all the basic foot and arm positions step by step. You will also learn the most basic ballet movements/steps and the vocabulary needed to truly appreciate the art of ballet.

Ballet I

Continues working on the foundations of Classical Ballet training. Students begin learning short, simple combinations while at the Barre and going across the floor. Students are introduced to basic jumps and positions of the body in center floor.

Ballet II

Students continue to work off of the Ballet I principals, while adding more difficult skills such as pirouette turns, leaps, and other jumps. Dancers begin to understand center floor placements and begin to learn balance and footwork combinations in center floor.

Ballet III

Ballet III is considered to be an intermediate Ballet class. At this point in training, students have a solid barre and floor foundation, and begin to explore complexity within these areas.

Ballet IV/V

An advanced Ballet class, students work to master all aspects of classical Ballet training. Dancers have developed the knowledge and strength to carry out complex floor work and combinations. Students are working with multiple pirouettes and other turns, while perfecting ballet leaps and jumps. This class moves at a quicker pace than all other Ballet classes.

Classical Ballet Intensive Program

Our classical Ballet Intensive Program is designed to help the serious dance student reach their goals through intensive, specified training by using the Cecchetti Method of Classical Dance. This method was derived from Italy and sets the foundation for the students to grow form by internalizing the basic principles of Ballet in an effort to be self-reliant rather than imitating the movements executed by their teacher. This is one of the main training techniques used in professional and classical Ballet. This is an audition-based intensive program.

A student must be admitted to the Intensive Program prior to dancing on Pointe and must have instructor approval. Upon instructor approval a Pointe shoe fitting will be arranged with the director. Students need to be aware that Pointe work is not appropriate for each student. Not only does a student have to have strong technical skill, but also have a foot that is suitable for dancing on the toes. **see instructor for additional information
